A good heavy duty tripod for my Mamiya?
I am looking to buy a new tripod to hold all the weights of the cameras (two Nikon and my Mamiya RB67), but I'm not sure what to go with. I hear Manfrotto / Bogen is really good, but I need something I can trust to hold the weight of my Mamiya especially. If possible, I'm looking for one that will not break my budget (most of the tripods looked online was $ 200 - $ 300). In particular, I am looking for one head, has the weight of my Mamiya, and has good long legs. Any suggestion model (for I can look for them on eBay)? Thank you!
I do not know is your spending limit is when you describe "one that will not break my budget, but you can try for an economical solution when looking at a tripod used and the head. Try to search online with Yahoo search for "used camera equipment." I was very lucky with a place of equipment used Atlanta (KEH) that sell online. Manfrotto tripods makes very strong (look for something to support up to 11 or 12 pounds). I have a 3021, which I believe has been replaced by model 055xb. If you are interested in buying new, look 055xb, which extends to 54 inches without extending the center column (using the center column as a last resort, because it reduces stability) and supports more than what you need for the Mamiya RB67. You must also decide if you want a ball head or 3-Way Pan / tilt head. I would consider it a 055xb/486RC2 ballhead combo for around $ 200 + shipping in the new B & H Photo in NY. Otherwise, take a look at the 3-Way 055xb/808RC4 Pan / Tilt Head - about $ 250 + shipping. If you are considering used, take a look at a set of Bogen / Manfrotto 3021 tripod legs and a Bogen / Manfrotto 3047 pan / tilt head. You should be able to find items in good condition for less than $ 150 in total, whether you look for them on KEH, B & H, or eBay.
