Getting a good digital image of artwork is very important if you want people to get the full impact of the artwork. You must have good quality pictures digital artwork for your online galleries, public relations materials, exhibitions and galleries. Digital images are works of art online, so we need to look as close to the original artwork as possible. Want to make a good first impression, right? If you have a great piece of art and is opaque, black and gray on the computer screen, automatically disengage the audience and viewers will not want to see, that did not interest viewers.

Equipment --

1. Camera - I use a 4.0 megapixel camera that Olympus is a decent camera, good quality, but any digital camera work. Read your instructions guide the camera to find all the options to take good quality pictures. Continue in HD. TIFF images because you can always decrease the image quality and file size of a digital photograph, but can not be from a low resolution image and do it in high resolution.

2. Lighting - You need not be an expensive lighting system or a very expensive picture camera, which I use is clamp on metal reflectors that can be purchased at the hardware store and use 500 watts of light pictures from the photo shop in the clamp on metal reflectors. I use four of these at once.

3. Tripod - A tripod is also very useful but can do without it if necessary. Use a tripod with tilt and rotation. If you do not have a tripod, Make sure your shutter speed is at least 1 / 60 and hold the camera steady and squeeze the trigger gently.

4. Photo Editing Software - The last component is the computer software to adjust the images on the computer, I use Adobe Photoshop, which is impressive. There are many other software programs photo editing available, and basically just have to be able to crop the image and adjust the colors and brightness and darkness of your digital images.

Procedures --

1. Shooting inside with at least two 500-watt lamps flood photo (3200K) mounted in the spotlight. If your work is 22 "x 30 "or more likely have to use four lights.

2. Put the artwork on a piece of black cardboard to a fund. Attach the black art board with double stick tape, tacks or use a mat black. Place on the wall or on an easel or on the floor. Art must be parallel to the camera lens, the lens center pointing toward the center of the art. Use a spirit level to make sure the camera and art are level. A band of gray / color scale next to the art, so it will have a reference to adjust the color digital image.

3. Lamps should be 4-5 feet away from the art, the position lights at an angle of 30 degrees to the surface of the artwork and about each of the four lights in a corner apart from the work so that the light will illuminate the entire surface evenly of the artwork. Check to make sure no hot spots, shadows or shine reflected in art. The room must be completely dark when shooting. Cover windows and turn off the lights. For the work of texture and collage trying to sweep the light with one light in the face and adjust exposure accordingly.

4. Fill the viewfinder or LCD (digital) with the single image, focused and absolutely square to the sides, top and bottom. Move the camera or the zoom, not art. Focus carefully on the center art.

5. The best combination is a low-speed setting (1 / 8, 1 / 15, 1 / 30 sec.) With a high f / stop (F11 or F16) for color saturation and sharp image. If you do not have a tripod, you must use at least 1 / 60 shutter speed.

6. Always take the highest resolution. TIFF image possible (for print applications), you can always save that as. Jpg or Gif o. Png for use anywhere. For the web, a. Gif of 72 pixels per inch resolution is good for most web applications, since it has a small file size and loads quickly.

7. Edit digital imaging, in photo editing software, to coincide with the appearance of your artwork.

8. Organize files digital artwork on the computer folders so you can easily navigate them to climb the online galleries such as the new and rapidly growing network of artist and online gallery - My Art Friends -- target = "_blank" href = "http://www.myartfriends.com"> http://www.myartfriends.com

Miscellaneous --

Group your artwork by the size and shoot the same size in the sequence, so you do not have to adjust the camera or easel so. If the parts are of a standard size, place tape on the floor to mark the position of the camera, lights and easel standing or art and art placement. It will save time when shooting again.
