Softbox Lighting
Feb/080

People often ask me, 'How do you do? How do I get to stand still / looking at the camera all at the same time / raised in the manner want? The answer is I do not know!
The idea behind taking a photograph is to capture a moment in time, to freeze so that it becomes a record that we share and remember for years to come. And it is the nature of childhood to be exuberant, cheerful, explore, belligerent, at times, and yes .... unpleasant when choosing a camera in them. It is those moments that you want to capture, full of life, the essence that makes the children that are not static head shots and smiles cheese. Exchanges Cheeky between siblings, the wildness of nudity in a sprinkler, the toes of clay and striped sides make mud pies, these are memories that will be remembered long after that the shutter clicked. So, as a first rule, do not try to mold their children into an image that will not recognize the way to be faithful to that time.
That said, there is a gift for capturing the moment in a way that makes it a work of art rather than a snapshot. You do not need luxury camera team to succeed, but you do need a good eye for composition, and above all, awareness of lighting, which is falling, which is emphasizing the camera and how to respond to it.
Automatic point and shoot cameras come with shooting modes that can be configured according to the image you want to capture. These cameras work in a series of presets so that you do not have to worry about the technical aspects. In my experience, most people leave automatic and expect the best. Take time to read the manual. It's as simple as understanding that in the night mode, the camera shutter speed reduces to allow light as possible, in portrait mode, opens the aperture to blur the background a little. These basic understandings begin to make a big improvement to your images.
The next important factor is light, and how to work with him. If you have the capability, auto flash off the camera and look for daylight whenever possible. Note that the camera built in exposure meters will be working to accommodate the ambient light. If you are standing in front of their children to the light source and aim the camera at them, the light from behind the trick "camera in believing that there is a lot of light, and adjusted accordingly by darkening of the exhibition. There will be too much variation between brightness behind the subject, and the light on the subject, resulting in a dark subject on a bright background.
The obvious solution to this is to turn children around at that time long tradition of keeping the light behind the photographer, shining in the issue. This does not address the problem of exposure, but the shadows, the result is often deep in the eye sockets and expressions squint.
Thus, things to catch 22? Yes, in some respects, but you can do to minimize these problems. To begin, choose the time of day carefully. Early morning or afternoon light source will provide a much smoother and avoid harsh shadows. On cloudy days, clouds act as a light box, the spread of the hardness of the light and providing optimal recording conditions. Also seek ways to diffuse the light, taking the kids to interior windows to bring light on them, without direct sun, or seek shade in the open terraces or trees.
Next, think about the approach and composition. Making shots UNPOS not natural These conjectures and saucer. Snapping children's children at random in the game is likely to result in the back half of the face, or limbs in the way of injection. But break blowing bubbles, eating strawberries, with a comet or an umbrella ... all of these things constitute an outbreak, keep the kids occupied and give you time to actually create the image want.
Finally, have fun!
