What are the advantages of using a tripod?

speed faster shutter, image stabilization - forget all that. You will notice a difference in the sharpness of your pictures with a tripod. I try to use mine possible. Here's another good rule-of-thumb: if its focal length is greater than your shutter speed, use a tripod. So if you're using a lens 200 mm and shutter speed is 1 / 125, a tripod with us. Photos taken at night, constantly panning, not having to rely on a flash. Lots of good reasons.
