Designers hit show "HGTV Challenge had the intention of the film in my hometown. This is the show were three sets of designers present their design concepts for homeowners and a designer is selected to complete the project. Fortunately, my companion and asked to design to appear on the show.
Pages of documentation and a very detailed agenda later, gave us the project details and budget to transform a room family. We were allowed to meet with the homeowner once and only once before making our presentation. From that point we had two weeks to design and create the space of all materials of the chamber in the presentation.
The first day of recording was not tense and nervous, the show's host Chris Harrison was not present and no, I am. We were told Chris makes his recordings in a studio in Los Angeles. The crew arrived that included the director of the segment, two men camera, a lighting technician, sound technician and two production assistants.
The first segment was recorded for the introduction viewers have the opportunity to meet designers. Because there are two of us were sitting together. We have put together on a sofa, almost each other's lap, but we were told that the camera, this is normal. Cheek to cheek we sat down and answered a string of pre-organize questions on interior design and the local area. We were told how to respond to questions that the answers that seemed to speak rather than answer questions. This proved more difficult than it seems.
The next day was the presentation of the project, the implementation of the presentation took hours, literally. I had always heard of "hot lights" on a set, and now I understand exactly what that means. Extensive testing was also sound out, everyone had to be in absolute silence during this process. A barking dog and a bird chirping district maintained as a production assistant was sent to address both issues. I do not know what he did, but 10 minutes later the neighborhood was quiet.
During this Set / waiting period, the director asked to see the presentation boards. Forums called our "Eye Candy" for the camera and I knew we were in good shape. Finally, we presented our ideas on many occasions, pausing for an occasional airplane flying overhead, and of course the occasional blooper innocent. Nothing was shot in one take. Immediately after finishing, We left the house for a production assistant as the next designer had arrived and the designers of the competition would not comply.
Now, Homeowners need to make your selection designer. The wait began and lasted two weeks, although the program say the homeowners who took the decision in a week. Finally, the call came and the homeowners chose us to complete the project. I remember jumping up and down with my then two years saying: "Mommy is going to be on television as Elmo from Sesame Street." He is now 4 and still has not shown any interest in the segment.
The "real" work began and started the family business of interior design project. There are many details that never participate in the sample chamber as changes in the homeowner, oversight of subcontractors, the issues of product availability (and that the project should be completed in a program production and not design a proper program in the world This was a major obstacle). There were regular calls for making sure the production company we were on schedule as the sector has already been sold to the grid even though the film was not complete.
When design work was completed and the production team came to town. We shot scenes that showed the results of the room, and conclude the interviews in the overall process. In the midst of my final interview, a bee flying under the strap of her sandal and stung the fingers. I fell on my partner, it was inevitable because they were so close together. On television, the real reality style, the cameras continued to tape the whole blooper. I signed a form at the beginning of the process stating that all the images you get the equipment can be used in any way they choose, and jokes for the rest of the day this was taken in the program would be used for next blooper they were creating. I think it was a joke, but at some point still wonder.
Over nine months later, the sample to air in primetime on HGTV. My inbox messages e-mail blocked 3 hours before the show to air in my state. The questions were great, but the overwhelming design question was a request from the brand and name the color of paint we use. Even now, two years later, I always know when you run the program has been because of new messages appear in my tray entry, again with the same question. Just in case you're wondering, the color of toasted sesame seeds Benjamin Moore, or if a program is blooper have created, the name is "roasted Sesame Street." My profession is interior design, but my real work is being a mother.
